I’ve ported Softened Cells to TXP which is a simply phenomenal style from Pat Heard at FullAhead. This isn’t one of my full-blown systems and is only suitable for TXP 4.0 and up because I’m still not doing plug-ins. There are About and Contact pages built-in but no form mailer is used. If you want archives I’ll leave that up to the user. I have also included an “error_404” template for those that can use it. This facility will become available in 4.0.2 but if you keep up-to-date with SVN you can use it now. This style includes several surprises. You will need to go to the demo to see them. Describing them here would be difficult but on the demo keep an eye out for links within the article. The top_nav and sidebar links are a bit special too. The download comes with 2 included banner graphics and I have used both for the screenshots. If you use them please give the appropriate credit to ThreeTree who took them and retain the credit for Pat in the CSS as minimum. I mean that! I’m seeing a lot of sites where the credits have been removed. If you had the skill to produce designs like these you wouldn’t be here would you? I think this style is so good that I am using it elsewhere myself, but you will have to wait to find out about that. And I give credit where credit is due. This style should be fairly easy to install for newcomers without the added burden of installing plug-ins. It would also be suitable for a small corporate site in it’s original form. I’ve ported it as a blog style but if you would like to use it for something else go to Pat’s site to download the original so that you can port it from scratch. Screenshots Why don’t you try the demo? All links in the demos will take you out of the style except for the article title permalink and comment invite link. |
I am having a problem with the install - I have done everything your readme said, but the images won’t show up. The folder is chmodded for 777, and I’ve changed the css to match your description. I am using the default textpattern image folder.

You are in a sub-sub-directory. Your image URLs in the CSS should be something like /wizards/tenach/8.gif

Alright, well, the images are showing up, all except the header. I’ve made sure the css is correct, as well as the page, and location of the header image. I’ve tried replacing it, deleting it, putting up a new one, (all the while changing the css when necessary) to no avail.

On your front-page you have a div called header2 which I believe should just be header like the other templates.

I’ve set up Softened Cells at http://rynne.org and I like it a lot. However, for some reason when I click on an individual article heading and go to the page where you can enter comments, the header photo disappears. Any clues?

Yes. Oh I suppose you want to know the answer. The download is setup to use both of the header images supplied. For your site you only want to use your own image so if you go to the archive page template you will see the “header2” div. Remove the “2”. Done. :)

Is it me or does this theme only show one post on the first page and the rest get pushed into the sidebar under recenlty?

It’s partly you and partly the way the demos work here. You can designate any “limit” you like for the main article listing however, here at TextGarden, there is only 1 article in the “softened-cells” section so only 1 article is shown. The “Recently” listing will access articles from ALL sections which is why you see a long list.

Am I missing something in the Page Template folder. There are the three folders; however each contains only something like
“Go to content Go to navigation Go to search
Previous Next”
That’s the entire content of the default.txt file.
Should I not have a lot more letters, numbers, and marking up symbols of some sort?
I’ve placed, I believe, everything else in the correct manner. However, without something to layout the pages, the site is not really functional.

I got the following errors in article page:
Tag error: <txp:sitename/> -> Textpattern Notice: tag is deprecated on line 978
Tag error: <txp:message/> -> Textpattern Notice: tag is deprecated on line 1770
Please help me.

Hi Dany,
Those tags have been changed since I ported this theme. You should now use <txp:site_name /> and <txp:comment_message /> instead.
