This is a multimedia theme which can have a weblog as well as a photo section. Installation uses Manfre’s mem_templates plugin to import all page, form and CSS templates plus it installs all plugins used by the theme and activates them.
No theme images need to be uploaded to the “Images” tab. All aspects of the theme remain external to Textpattern itself.
The theme includes the “woo_variables” and “woo_widgets” plugins. Once installed you will find that you have 2 new tabs – “Content/Theme Variables” and “Content/Widgets” – both of which enable you to modify the set-up of the theme without the need to go anywhere near any code.
The theme comes with extensive documentation. Here are some details about Aperture:-
- Comes with 12 colour variations which can be set on the new “Theme Variables” tab.
- The header can use your own logo image or, if you don’t have one, it will display the site name entered into the “Preferences/Basic” tab. These settings are on the new “Theme Variables” tab.
- The “Select A Category” block can be replaced by a banner ad or image of your choice. Settings are on the new “Theme Variables” tab.
- The number of articles displayed by the slider and the length of the excerpts can be set on the new “Theme Variables” tab.
- The front-page can display up to 8 photo category blocks in 2 rows of 4. You can choose which categories to display, what order they are displayed in and the titles to display. Settings are made on the new “Theme Variables” tab.
- Feeds use Txp tags by default but if you have a Feedburner account the URL can be entered on the new “Theme Variables” tab and this will be used instead.
- By default the theme uses the “articles” section for the weblog and the “photo” section for photographs but these can be changed on the “Sections” tab and the new sections entered on the new “Theme Variables” tab. These will then be used throughout the site including widgets and navigation.
- The email address for the contact form is added on the new “Theme Variables” tab.
- All widget variables, including ad images, are on the new “Widgets” tab.
- All widgets can be placed in both the extended footer and the sidebar, or both if necessary (except Twitter which can only appear on a page once due to the way the API works).
- You can set the widgets used in the extended footer on the new “Widgets” tab.
- The extended footer can be left blank.
- The “About”, “Contact” and “Blog” (in article_list view) sections display a double sidebar.
- The main weblog and photo images at the top of articles are entered into the “Article Image” field in “Advanced Options” on the “Write” tab. Just need the “id” number. If you don’t want an article image the theme can cope with it.
- Only the main (largest) image needs uploading to the “Images” tab. This is the image you see when you click on the article image. All other versions of the image including the article image, the slider image, the image used in the category blocks and the image used in the sidebar widget are auto-generated.
- Styling is included for images contained within an article to position them left, right or centre. Just add the appropriate class name to your image tag.
- The Contact form will be automatically added to the bottom of the Contact article once it has been created.
- A full-width page template is included.
- The “mem_templates” plugin needs to be installed manually but once that is done all page templates, form templates, CSS templates and remaining plugins are imported with a couple of “clicks” plus all plugins are “activated”.
Please note that this theme is not free and is only available for download from thebombsite.com.
